It was disappointing to arrive and fin the door locked from Voir la suite de l’avisnoon to 3 pm. This is not conveyed on Hotels.Com , just that check in is not til 3. All other hotels offer to mind your luggage if you arrive befor check in time but this one is t even open. I am travelling by train and and my connection from Toulouse arrived just before 1 pm and so my plan was to leave my case and walk around Saumur but that proved impossible. Consequently I could either sit on the hotel doorstep for two hours or trundle my case over cobblestones back to the tourist office and wait there. Had I known this was the Volney policy I would not have booked. Also, the check in fellow did not at first offer to help me carry my case up the steep and very narrow steps to the top level. I am a 70 years old female if tiny stature and only when I was obviously struggling did he ask if I wanted help! I have never before encountered this attitude in hotel desk staff. Finally, there was no remote control for my tv and because I discovered this at 8:10 pm- surely a common time for folk to want to use their television, the front desk was abandoned and no one available to assist. The sign said there was a phone to call IN CASE OF EMERGENCY and I did not think a remote control being unavailable was an emergency. I did search under the bed but it was not there or anywhere. The tv was on top of the wardrobe and to look up there would have meant I would need to climb on the desk next to it see and no way was I going to do such a dangerous thing. Anyway, I’d definitely not recommend a stay at the lonely un,ess there was nothing else available. It is cheap but Hotels dot come does not warn its users that there is no staff on the premises for three hours in the middle of the day and after 8 pm. I would not stay anywhere that was so vulnerable in case of fire or in case of a guest needing assistance in the night, for example, if they had a heart pains and needed to call an ambulance. There is no phone in the room and this should be explained to. Even when staff is there, a guest must go down the stairs and up again to resolve and issues rather than speaking on the phone.
